Mercury Certification: built by the industry, for the industry

No single company, industry, or regulator wrote our first certification requirements. 30+ industry players did.

EV chargers already installed in homes and businesses needed a route to interoperability to foster energy flexibility, not just the new ones being designed from scratch.

That's what our working groups exist to solve. Full Members lead them and vote on the roadmap and specifications. Observers contribute to the discussions too. 

‍

In the room are engineers and product leads from device manufacturers, flex providers, and technology partners. These are the companies that have to live with whatever the requirements prescribe.

One of these working groups built our most recent specification to support existing OCPP architecture using the OEM's own cloud as a comms relay, so devices already shipped don't need a hardware swap to qualify.

‍

DEKRA then tested the first three devices against it independently. Zaptec Go 2, Easee Charge Platform, and Octopus Charge are now Mercury Certified, the direct result of a specification that the industry itself argued into shape.

That gives utilities a device they can build smart tariffs and flexibility programmes around, with confidence, because the technical requirements behind it were written by people solving the actual interoperability problem.

For EV drivers, that confidence shows up in a charger that works properly with whatever tariff or smart charging programme it's plugged into.
